I have been making quarterly goals for quite a while now. While I don’t always hit my goals, I think it’s important to keep making them!

First goal… put these goals somewhere I can see them daily. I often rely on just remembering these goals and sometimes I forget what I wanted to work on!

Try New Vegetarian Recipes

One of our goals this year is to eat more vegetarian meals. We have a few tried and true favourite recipes, but it would be nice to try some new ones! I’m going to aim to try at least 2 new vegetarian recipes a month.

$1000 To Savings

To kick off our year, I’d like to save $1000 and put that into our new car fund. That’s just $334 each month, and should be easily done.

Delete Emails & Unsubscribe

I have so many emails! Over 4600 (unread) on my phone. I want to delete emails and also unsubscribe from mailing lists that are cluttering my inbox. Emails actually contribute to your carbon footprint, so they are better off deleted!

6 Blog Posts

I’ve been slacking on blog posts but I have a bunch of new ideas and I’m looking forward to sharing them with you again.

Here’s to an amazing quarter 1!

Great Big 2022 Goals https://willsavefortravel.com/great-big-2022-goals/ https://willsavefortravel.com/great-big-2022-goals/#respond Tue, 04 Jan 2022 20:19:20 +0000 https://willsavefortravel.com/?p=3982 Tis the season to reflect on the past year, and think about the new year in front of us. Usually I love the feeling of starting a new year, but this year it feels less exciting. Possibly a combination of pandemic fatigue, a hard year, and no travel plans in sight.

Still I want to reflect on 2021 and set some goals for 2022!

My Goals For 2021

Read more about why I set these goals in 2021

Work Location Independent

I did it! I work from home as a virtual assistant, and as such I can work from anywhere! Not that I really have anywhere to go right now. I’ve been working really hard to create boundaries around my time and build a business that will serve me now and in the future.

Renovate our house within budget

We haven’t gone into any debt renovating our house! We have been able to replace windows, paint, tile our entryway, buy new furniture, and recently get a new metal roof. Sometimes I can hardly believe that we’ve only been here 9 months.

Eat More Veggies

I feel like this is a success! We’ve definitely been eating more vegetables this year.

Read 14 Books

So close, but not quite. I’ve read 10 books this year.

Tupper House in the snow

2022 Goals

Invest More

While I have been investing in an RRSP for over 10 years, I don’t invest enough. I’d like to learn more about investing and invest more so retirement comes a bit sooner!

Look Into Solar For Our House

Tupper House is big. Like 4000 square feet big. We knew that buying a big old house would be expensive to heat, and also not very environmentally friendly. We have been doing upgrades like replacing windows, getting blown-in insulation and a metal roof to help, but solar would help us by reducing our heating costs, and make us more sustainable. We plan to stay here for a while, so I think it makes sense to invest in solar panels. There are lots of options for companies, so I plan to do research and see if we can find something within our budget and our goals.

Exercise

I’m sure lots of people have exercise on their goals list. I am aiming for 3 days per week for at least 30 minutes. It can be a walk, hike, bike, swim, workout class, etc!

Shop More Small Businesses

I gave up Amazon in 2019 and haven’t looked back, but this year I want to focus on shopping small and local when possible. Now that we live in a small town it can be more challenging, but there are still plenty of small businesses around, and there’s always shipping.

Get A Will

We don’t have a will (I know, I know). It’s been on our to-do list for a long time and just hasn’t gotten done. This is the year!

Final Thoughts

2021 was one of the most challenging years of my life. We sold and bought a house, we moved back to our hometown, we lost family members we loved dearly, grew a new branch of my business, and we spent more time at home.

I’m feeling more hopeful that 2022 will come with more growth, more adventures, and more time with people we love.

Q3 Goals & Halfway Through 2021 https://willsavefortravel.com/q3-goals-halfway-through-2021/ https://willsavefortravel.com/q3-goals-halfway-through-2021/#respond Fri, 02 Jul 2021 18:45:51 +0000 https://willsavefortravel.com/?p=3785 July!?! JULY! Quarter 2 of 2021 has ended and Q3 has officially begun. Q3 is my favourite! It’s summer, the days are longer, and I’m so happy to be living closer to the beach.

We’re officially been here in Milton for 3 months, and it definitely feels like home. We’ve painted our kitchen, and dining room, and just this week we had 7 new windows installed! Still lots to do though, we’ve ordered a new metal roof, and are planning on adding some insulation to the front part of the house, that doesn’t have any!Dining Room in Benjamin Moore burnt peanut red

Let’s recap my Q2 goals:

Get to inbox zero – I made a good dent in my inbox, but I still have lots sitting there to be dealt with. I have managed to delete thousands of emails over the past 3 months, but unfortunately with more coming in, it was hard to keep up.

Get 2 more VA clients – I have officially signed on 4 VA clients in the last 3 months! I’m so excited that they have chosen me to help them with their business. I’m putting a pause on accepting new clients for now! So grateful I started this business

FB ads course – I didn’t even touch my FB ads course, however I have been taking a course on Instagram reels. Trying to make time each week for continuing education, I’ll try to be better at that going forward!

Continue strength training – I haven’t completed as many strength training workouts as I wanted, but mostly because I have been opting for walks since the weather has been good.

Quarter 3 Goals

Stay Under Budget For Groceries

Our grocery budget has been out of control since we moved. I think it’s a combination of groceries being more expensive here, not planning ahead, and indulging in more treats.  Our budget will be $175 every 2 weeks, I’m considering going back to a cash budget, we’ll see!

Set Up The Profit First System

I’ve been reading Profit First by Mike Michalowicz, and although I’ve already been doing a lot of the things he sets out in his book, I want to officially set up the system.

It’s very similar to the sinking funds I use for my everyday life, so it should be very easy for me to get the hang of, I just need to head to the bank and set it up.

Go To The Beach Once A Week

I know it sounds silly to write this on a goals list, but I need to remind myself that the beach is really close, and I need to enjoy it. I want to go at least once a week for a walk, or to sit and enjoy.

2021 Goals Update

I thought I’d also do an update on my big yearly goals, since we are halfway through 2021!

Work Location Independent

Check mark! I can work from wherever I am, and that makes me so happy! I left massage therapy when we moved, and haven’t looked back!

Renovate Our New House Within Budget

I have a blog post coming up with the financials of our new house, but for now I’ll just say that we are in budget so far, but some options projects will be pushed back!

Eat More Veggies

I’ve definitely been more intentional about having more veggies. I find getting meal kits helps with my vegetable intake (but not necessarily my budget!!). Even if it’s just adding some cucumber slices to my plate, I’ve been a lot better.

Read 14 Books

I’m currently reading book #5, so I’m very behind! I went through a period between February and mid April where I had no interest in reading. Now that summer is here, covered porch reading will be on my agenda!

That’s it! I have lots of great blog posts lined up for you, I can’t wait to share them.

Q2 2021 Goals & Life Update https://willsavefortravel.com/q2-2021-goals-life-update/ https://willsavefortravel.com/q2-2021-goals-life-update/#respond Thu, 08 Apr 2021 17:21:15 +0000 https://willsavefortravel.com/?p=3686 Wow! Quarter 2 of 2021 has started and I’m in a whole new house!

So much has changed since I last wrote my Quarter 1 goals way back in January. I officially moved back to my hometown as of last week. We got the keys to our new (but very old) house and have been slowly unpacking and putting things away. Also slowly starting some renovation projects.

I can FINALLY share photos of my house, and I’ll be doing an entire walkthrough post very soon.

Quarter 1 Recap

Pack To Move

Well we did it! Obviously because we’ve moved haha!! It was down to the wire and I wish I had been a bit more organized. We hired movers which was an amazing decision. They picked up all our stuff and stored it on a truck for a few days before delivering it to our new house AND placing all of it in the rooms where we wanted it to go. Mostly a great experience but I’m definitely ready to stay in one place for quite a while.

Packed boxes in a room with grey walls

Strength Train 3 Days A Week

I’ve averaged about 3 days a week of strength training since January, which I’m really proud of! I’ve been taking online fitness classes with Journey To Wellness with Deborah Peddle-Hann, and I find them really fun and I love that I can do them at home, either live or on the replay. I definitely intend to continue with this habit.

Drink Water

Oh water. I’ve not been 100% at drinking water but I’m always trying to keep it at the front of my mind. Hoping it gets easier as I get more into a routine at my new house.

1 Blog Post Per Week

Welp, that was a major fail! I think I only wrote 5 blog posts in all of Q1. Honestly I just let the blog take the back burner while getting ready to move, and officially launching my Virtual Assistant business about a month ago.

Lots of home renovation blogs coming at you soon!

Quarter 2 2021 Goals

Get to Inbox Zero

I’m almost embarrassed to admit how many emails are sitting in my various inboxes. I definitely let them build up, and sometimes miss some important emails. I’ve been meaning to clean up my inbox for a while, but what pushed me over the edge was seeing how all my unread emails harm the environment.

You might think that an email is being stored “online” and has no effect on the physical world, but in fact every single email that exists is stored on a server. Servers are physical structures that require massive amounts of energy 27/7. They also need water, or air conditioning for cooling. Each email actually puts an estimated 0.3g ( and up to 50g for those large attachments) of C02 into the atmosphere!

So I’ll be cleaning up my inbox to reduce my overwhelm AND my carbon footprint.

Sign On 2 More Virtual Assistant Clients

I don’t always talk business on here with you in my goals, but after 10 years I am sitting my massage therapy career aside to focus on my new virtual assistant business. I manage social media, and time-sucking tasks for my clients so that they are free to focus on other things in their business. I would like to bring on 2 more clients to fill up my schedule

P.S. Does this seem like something you need? Get all the info you need here!

Finish My FB Ads Course

I started a Facebook Ads course WAAAYYY back at the end of January. With so much going on, it also got put on the back burner, so it’s time to finish up that course so that I can start offering that service to my virtual assistant clients.

Continue With Strength Training

I really don’t want to fall off this wagon! Going to set aside time in my schedule to do 3 classes per week, with some walks for cardio thrown in as well. It’s lighter in the evenings now, and getting a bit warmer out there, so it will be nice to get outside.

That’s All For Now!

Honestly just getting to inbox-zero is going to be a task, so I better get to work! I will have lots of new blog posts for you about our move, my career change, our new house and some travel and finance stuff too! Chat soon,

Quarter 1 2021 Goals https://willsavefortravel.com/quarter-1-2021-goals/ https://willsavefortravel.com/quarter-1-2021-goals/#respond Mon, 04 Jan 2021 14:37:52 +0000 https://willsavefortravel.com/?p=3566 It still feels weird to write 2021. Now that the holiday season is over, I’m focusing on the year ahead. The other day I shared my great big goals for the year, but I also like to set smaller quarterly goals to keep myself on track.

At the end of this quarter, we’ll be moving! It seems so far away but I know the time is going to go by so quickly. We have to be out of our current house by March 29th. It’s actually sort of weird sitting here as I write in this home that won’t be ours for that much longer.

Without further ado… here are my goals!

Pack To Move

I’m not really looking forward to the actual moving process. In fact, last time we moved I procrastinated so much that my Mom and best friend packed my entire kitchen on the day we moved. Sorry guys, that was probably hell-ish! This will be a much bigger move, with more stuff, so we really need to be organized. I have packed a few boxes already, but we need to make a game plan!

Selling Our House

Strength Train 3 Days A Week

I have been pretty consistent with cardio/walking/running over the last year, but I have been totally slacking on strength training. It’s important to me to stay strong and healthy, so strength training is necessary.

Drink Water

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you’ll know I STRUGGLE with drinking water. Seriously, what is wrong with me? I need to drink about 60 ounces of water a day. *drinking water as I write this*

1 Blog Post Per Week

I’ve been slacking a bit on writing (selling your house in December will do that), but I am committing to publishing one blog post per week for the next 3 months! I have so many things I want to write about and I can’t wait to share them with you.

Great Big 2021 Goals https://willsavefortravel.com/great-big-2021-goals/ https://willsavefortravel.com/great-big-2021-goals/#respond Fri, 01 Jan 2021 13:23:13 +0000 https://willsavefortravel.com/?p=3561 Well, we’ve made it to 2021. That’s a pretty big feat considering what 2020 has thrown at us! I won’t go on and on about what a crazy year it was (I’m so tired of the word unprecedented), but I’ll recap how our 2020 goals have gone and then tell you what’s on the horizon for 2021!

We’ve ended this year in a way I definitely didn’t expect – we put our house on the market on December 16 and accepted an offer on December 18 after 15 showings in 2 days! As of yesterday we are officially sold! We also put an offer on a magical house from the 1850’s and I cannot wait to share it with you. The ink isn’t dry on that yet… but I promise as soon as it’s ours I’ll be sharing everything!

2020 Goals Recap

Read all about our 2020 goals when we made them!

Save $10,000 Toward a New Car

Um, well we saved $3557.00 toward a new car. Definitely not the 10K we had planned but this goal fell by the wayside in March when my husband started working from home. We definitely aren’t driving as much, and decided this goal wasn’t something that was serving us. Saving for a new car is still something I want to do (I’d really like to buy an electric vehicle in the next few years), so we’ll keep putting little bits away.

Plant Trees For Every Flight We Take

Well, we took exactly zero flights this year, so I haven’t donated to plant any trees! I was planning to keep track of kilometers driven to donate but I haven’t done that either. Overall a bit of a fail, but traveling less has made a positive impact on the environment!

Read 12 Books

I love reading, but I usually end up on my phone instead. I read 13 books this year, and enjoyed most of them. My favorites being The Power Of Ritual by Casper ter Kuile, and the Sign of Seven series by Nora Roberts. Nora Roberts books are not my usual genre, but it was a great summer deck read. Looking forward to more reading in 2021!

Jenn sitting on a deck chair

Walk/Run 1000km

I did it! I ran/walked 1068km! I only counted intention walks/runs, not just walking around the house. It’s been great getting outside most of the year and I always enjoy listening to a podcast. A few times I went on our treadmill indoors if the weather was bad. Overall this was a really positive goal to set and I definitely want to continue.

Great Big 2021 Goals

Work Location Independent

We are moving about an hour and a half away from where we currently live, and I will be leaving my massage therapy job likely in March! I have been a massage therapist since 2010, and I’m not 100% sure yet if I will continue massaging when we move. I want to have a job that is location independent so that we have the option of going away for the winter in the future.

Renovate Our New House Within Budget

I told you it’s from the 1850s right? Luckily the current owners have done some renovations so it’s not a huge job to renovate, but there are so many things we want to do. I can see how it will be easy to go way over budget, so I want to make sure we don’t spend too much.

I’m not sure what the budget is going to be yet, it all depends on how much profit we make on the sale of our current house. I definitely want to make sure we invest some of the profits too. I’ll be doing a full post in the future all about this process!

Eat More Veggies

I have noticed over the past year that my veggie intake has gone down. I definitely want to work on preparing healthier meals and make sure we are getting the right nutrients!

Read 14 Books

More reading, less endless scrolling on social media! I love social media; it’s connected me to so many great people and keeps me in touch with friends and family who live all over the world, but we all know about the endless scrolling which leads to time being wasted. I try to read most nights before bed and I want to continue that into 2021.

Final Thoughts

2020 will be a year to remember. We missed a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Europe, and my best friend’s wedding had to be postponed, but my husband and I got to spend so much time together (and discovered we still enjoy each other’s company even spending 24/7 together for months). I started a small business, we sold our first house and decided to move back to our hometown.

If you’re reading this, I’m grateful for you. Your support over the last few years while we’ve blogged about our struggles and victories has kept me going!

Happy 2021, I hope it brings something good into your life

Quarter 4 2020 Goals https://willsavefortravel.com/quarter-4-2020-goals/ https://willsavefortravel.com/quarter-4-2020-goals/#respond Sun, 04 Oct 2020 12:28:23 +0000 https://willsavefortravel.com/?p=3467 Happy October!

Holy Moly what?! Yes, it is October. The leaves are changing and the nights are cool. I am desperately still trying to hold on to Summer so I’m still sitting in my deck chair, even though sometimes I need a blanket.

Jenn sitting on a deck chair

I’m sure everyone feels like 2020 is the weirdest year. While everything feels upside down throughout the world, our little corner here in the Atlantic provinces of Canada is doing pretty well. Cases of the virus are low currently, and while we have to wear a mask in public spaces, we are able to travel around the “Atlantic Bubble” freely.

I can hardly believe that we are in the last 3 months of the year. I have so many things I am looking forward to, especially our trip to Cape Breton next week (we are staying in luxury camping domes!!). We also have many family traditions that I look forward to like our Gingerbread House weekend.

First I want to recap my Q3 goals:

Save $1000 for a deck reno – We did save around $850, however we didn’t do any renos! Materials were hard to come by, and we decided to put this off until next year.

Finish CEU course – check! Finished the course in August so my massage therapy continuing education is all done for the year.

Shop at more locally owned stores – This has been going really well I think. I started getting some veggies at Tomavo, which is a great store if you live in the HRM, or Moncton areas! We have been exclusively buying Nova Scotian roasted coffee, which has been really fun to try. I’ve also ordered a few books from local stores. Definitely going to continue looking at local stores first before big box stores.

Go offline one day per week – This has been a huge fail. I’ve set time limits on my phone but still manage to get online. I really need to work on my time management.

Quarter 4 Goals

Declutter bathroom items and linen closet

I’ve been watching The Home Edit on Netflix, and of course now I just want to organize everything! Most rooms got deep cleaned and organized during my 3 months off work in the Spring, but I didn’t really tackle the bathroom or the linen closet. Basically the closet is a mess where I shove everything.

Shop Locally For Christmas Gifts

Not surprising considering I’ve given up Amazon, and I’m on a mission to support local businesses! I can’t wait to pick out some locally made goodies to give as gifts!

Eat 50% Vegetarian

We ate vegetarian for the entire month of September (except for one weekend at my parents). We’re not strangers to eating vegetarian, we spent the year of 2016 without buying meat, but I tend to eat healthier when we buy meat. I hope to try more vegetarian recipes this quarter!

Save $1200

Although this money isn’t for anything in particular, I’d like to make a savings goal. We haven’t been saving as much this year, and we have a few possibly large purchases coming up!

Final Thoughts

In these last 3 months of the year, I want to remind myself that this year still matters, even if it has been horrible or hasn’t looked the way we thought it would.

Q3 Goals & Halfway Through 2020 https://willsavefortravel.com/q3-goals-halfway-through-2020/ https://willsavefortravel.com/q3-goals-halfway-through-2020/#respond Thu, 02 Jul 2020 18:34:54 +0000 https://willsavefortravel.com/?p=3298 Happy Day After Canada Day 😉 I know thats not a thing. I meant to get this posted yesterday but instead we spent the afternoon walking at Sir Sanford Fleming Park and BBQing dinner (partly because a bird electrocuted itself and caused our power to go out!). We played a game and watched our currently favourite TV show, Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Well, we’re halfway through 2020 and I’m certain this year is not going the way anybody expected it to. I feel like these last few months it was so important to have goals, otherwise I could have spent the last quarter on the sofa, watching Netflix and not accomplishing anything.

Dingle Tower and Sir Sandford Fleming Park in Halifax

Q2 Goals Recap

I didn’t know what to expect when I made these goals! I had no idea I would be off work for almost the entire quarter (I went back on June 5). Things didn’t go as planned, but its okay!

Stick To Grocery Budget – I wrote a few weeks ago about how our grocery spending has gone up by 38%. We didn’t do a great job of sticking to the budget in April and May, but got a good handle on it in June as things started to slide toward semi-normal here in Nova Scotia.

We are still doing online grocery orders. I’m not sure if that’s contributing to our spending increasing but after shopping in store last week I’m pretty determined to avoid going into the store at all costs.

Save $1500 Towards Our Car Fund – We managed to save $1314.09, which is just under $200 short of our goal. In total our car fund is sitting at $3046.55. We made a goal to save $10,000 this year, so we’ll have to hustle if we want to make that happen. But I’m not sure we will… I’ll explain more below.

New YouTube Video Weekly – This didn’t happen either, but I did launch a few. We had fun recreating some Disney Parks recipes! Most of them were a bit of a disaster but still tasty! Youtube went on the back burner since I launched The Travel Mug Podcast in June.

Exercise 30 Minutes A Day – In the past 3 months I’ve missed 17 days of exercise, mostly on the weekend. Definitely calling that a win even though it’s not technically every single day, I’ve been super consistent and I’m happy with that

Finish A Continuing Education Course – Definitely failed here! Need to get that done soon!

Give Myself Grace – Through all of this, I didn’t want to be too hard on myself. The world has changed, I can’t expect myself to move through all of this perfectly. That said I have done a lot of stuff that wasn’t on my goals list like launching a podcast, painting my office space, reading books, and learning to cross stitch!

Quarter 3 Goals

Life right now in Nova Scotia is opening up again. Cases of the virus are very low, and we are able to travel within the “Atlantic bubble” (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI and Newfoundland) starting tomorrow! Q3 is my favorite, since it encompasses my favorite months with the best weather. We have some plans to travel locally, this summer as long as it’s safe to do so.

Save $1000 For A Deck Reno

Our deck needs to be fixed up, as some boards need to be replaced. We will be replacing all the boards and then staining the deck. We estimate it will cost around $1000. Likely this project won’t get done until later in the summer or early fall, so we’ll be saving over the next few months.

Finish CEU Course

As this didn’t get finished last quarter, I really need to get this done. It is required by my job to complete continuing education every year!

Shop At More Locally Owned Stores

Supporting local businesses has been a focus for me over the past few months. As I outlined in my recent post Yes, It Matters Where You Spend Your Money, I want to focus on using my spending to vote for the kind of world I want.

Instead of buying coffee at Costco, last week I picked up some locally roasted coffee, yes it was more expensive, but it tastes great and I’m okay with the price increase to support a local business instead of a billion dollar corporation. In the next 3 months I’d like to buy more local fruits and veggies, and look more into local alternatives for things we already buy.

Go Offline 1 Day Per Week

This one is probably going to be the hardest for me. Like most people, my phone is always with me. I have been feeling the negative effects of being on social media too much lately. The “comments sections” where I can’t help but read all of the hateful opinions of some leave me sad and angry.

Going offline for me means not using social media for the day, I’ll still be using my phone for texts & calls. I’ll likely still use the internet to write and work on this blog though.

2020 Update

Since I’ve made my big 2020 goals, a lot has changed! I thought I’d give you a quick update on how these things are going…

Save $10,000 For A New Car

Well as I said above, we are behind on this goal, but I’m actually not that worried about it. Mostly because we aren’t driving very much and I think our current car will last longer than I originally thought. We’re still going to work toward this goal but it won’t be our main focus.

Plant Trees For Every Flight

Well, we haven’t flown anywhere! I have been thinking about how we can still reduce our carbon footprint, which has led to us shopping locally and continuing to buy second hand. I’m also going to donate for road trips longer than 2 hours. I will keep track of these and then donate at the end of the year.

Read 12 Books

So far I’ve read 6, so I’m exactly on track! I just started a new book this week, The Power Of Ritual and it’s amazing! It was written by one of the hosts of one of my favorite podcasts, Harry Potter & The Sacred Text. I’m excited to turn some habits into rituals!

Run/Walk 1000km

Since January 1 I’ve walked 604.39km. This doesn’t include regular walking around the house/ at work, it only includes going for deliberate walks. Since I’ve been walking on average 6 days a week, I’m on track to meet this goal a bit early!

Final Thoughts

Well, there you have it! A great big update on all of my goals. If you’ve read this far, thanks for sticking with me 😉 Let me know what goals you are working on!

2020 Q1 Goals https://willsavefortravel.com/2020-q1-goals/ https://willsavefortravel.com/2020-q1-goals/#respond Fri, 10 Jan 2020 19:09:37 +0000 https://willsavefortravel.com/?p=2584 ⅓ of the way through January 2020 already! Last week I set some big goals for the year, but I want to continue making smaller quarterly goals throughout the year to keep me on track for success!

First I’ll update you on my 2019 Q4 Goals:

  • Update RRSP to take full advantage of my Husband’s RRSP matching program in November ✅
  • Stay within budget for Christmas gifts ✅
  • Stay consistent with exercise ❌
  • Focus more on reducing plastic / other waste ❌
  • Declutter Christmas decorations while they are out ✅
  • Meal plan and prep to cut down on eating out ✅
  • Complete my continuing education course, required to be registered as a Massage Therapist ✅
  • Follow the blog plan from The Blog Girl Chronicles ❌
  • Send out blog emails every second Tuesday ❌

As you can see I did fully complete about half my goals. I struggled with being consistent with exercise in Late November and December, although I did pretty well in October and then it went downhill. I felt like I bought too many plastic wrapped things around the Holidays, although I did bring reusable cutlery to Disney! I struggled to get emails out and follow the blog plan, but I’m back on track now.

2020 Q1 Goals

Adhere To My Posting Calendar
My husband bought me a nice planner for Christmas and I’ve updated it with my posting schedule! I want to post twice a week and my bi-weekly email.

Meal Plan
Meal planning helps us save money and we don’t have to have the “what’s for dinner” conversation every day!

Read 3 books
I want to read at least 12 books this year, which means I’ll have to read at least 3 this quarter to keep on track.

Save $2500 Toward A New Car
We have a big goal this year of saving $10,000 toward a new car. $2500 will keep us on track of hitting that goal.

Declutter Spare Bedroom
The spare bedroom has been a dumping ground for lots of things that don’t have a “home”. I also want to be able to use the room as an office and use my Cricut, so it needs to be cleaned out!

6 YouTube Videos
I have a few videos filmed that I haven’t edited yet. I want to get them edited and release a new video at least every 2 weeks.

That’s it! Do you have any goals for quarter 1 of 2020! Let me know so I can cheer you on

Quarter 4 2019 Goals https://willsavefortravel.com/quarter-4-2019-goals/ https://willsavefortravel.com/quarter-4-2019-goals/#respond Tue, 01 Oct 2019 23:06:30 +0000 https://willsavefortravel.com/?p=2366 Hey friends! Can you believe it’s October?! I can’t believe it’s been over a month since I last sat down to write. I’m sorry it’s been so long but I’m ready to get back into the swing of things. I spent the last month updating a lot of old content, updating and optimizing old photos, and focusing on bringing everything up to snuff on the back end of the site. I got so much done without the pressure of trying to create new content.

With the beginning of October, we head into quarter 4 of 2019! I love summer, it is by far my favorite season, but I do love the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, and some of my favorite family traditions that come along with it; building a gingerbread house and baking Christmas cookies.

Let’s recap Q3 shall we? I made quarterly goals back in July

  • Increase RRSP contributions to 10% of our income
  • Figure out new budget without debt payments
  • Update Etsy store with new items
  • Post a new YouTube video at least biweekly
  • Be more consistent with exercise – 3 times a week at least 30 minutes
  • Save $1000 toward a new car
  • Update at least 3 blog posts a month
  • Declutter books

This summer was challenging! Since paying off our debt in July, I thought it would be more smooth sailing, however we struggled to find our “new normal”.

I have not yet increased our RRSP contributions so they are sitting at about 7%. My husband started a new job this summer, and will have RRSP matching in November, we will definitely be taking full advantage of that.

I started biweekly budgeting this summer. It was a challenge at first but now it feels a lot easier to me than monthly budgeting! It is perfect for people whose income is inconsistent. I’ll be writing a full post all about it soon!

I have not updating the Etsy store, sadly! It ended up on the back burner for sure.

Only 2 new videos made it onto the Youtube Channel, even though I have more filmed! They’ll be coming out along with the blog posts.

I am happy to say that I have been more consistent with exercising, and I feel really good, especially when I get outside. Looking forward to continuing this!

We did not save anything toward a new car, but the good news is, I don’t think we’ll be car shopping as soon as we thought we would. I mentioned before that my husband has a new job, which also involves a lot less driving than his old job. We are hoping the car will last a lot longer now!

Well I’ve gotten to update a lot more blog posts thanks to my break!

And finally we decluttered books in August. It felt really good to pass along books to other people so they can be read again, and now our bookshelf doesn’t look so chaotic.

Quarter 4

So what’s going to happen this quarter?! Here are my goals:

  • Update RRSP to take full advantage of my Husband’s RRSP matching program in November
  • Stay within budget for Christmas gifts
  • Stay consistent with exercise
  • Focus more on reducing plastic / other waste
  • Declutter Christmas decorations while they are out
  • Meal plan and prep to cut down on eating out
  • Complete my continuing education course, required to be registered as a Massage Therapist
  • Follow the blog plan from The Blog Girl Chronicles
  • Send out blog emails every second Tuesday

I think all of those things are possible in the last 3 months of 2019! I am excited to be working more with the girls over at Stop Trashing It, where I’ll be writing more blog posts for them.

Share your goals for the month or quarter 4 below! It would be great to cheer each other on!
